MattParticipant
Joe,
I am at the moment looking at options between the 82
tunable and the 2kw 38kHz. I fish these same depths
as you and run a 295. Hoping to be able to mark fish
near bottom at 6-8 knots. In your experience with
the 82 though its not as good at sounding close
bottom and bottom softness/hardness was it still
able to do the job?
Do you have any screen shots of the 82 in these
depths marking fish etc?If its not that good do you think the 2kw 38
would be able to do the job? Thanks Matt
MattParticipantHi Simon,
Have you run a big transducer on a side mount pole
before? If so have you got any photos of such a
set up.
I was looking at similar option? Thanks Matt
MattParticipantWhat is a ghost reading and what causes it?
Thanks
Matt
MattParticipantHi Joe,
Thanks alot. That helps.
Cheers Matt
MattParticipantHi Jo,
I know you mentioned quite a while ago in this post
that you didn’t like the 82-88 (2kw??) tunable because
the picture was not as good. Was this a furuno
transducer? also what do you mean not as good picture,
can you not pick up the DSC with it and was it not
able to mark fish as well as the 3kw 28 or 38kHz?
Why a 38kHz and not the 28kHz?MattParticipantJo when searching for these pinnacles/drop offs etc do
you look in certain depth ranges for each of the species? What are the depths you are searching?
MattParticipantMost recreational and even a lot of professional fisherman use 1kw or at most a 2kw transducer that don’t fish the distances you do. Some of these being tuneable to a frequency. Have you used a 1kw or 2kw for this fishing?
Are you able to pick up this deep scattered layer and/or fish with this size transducer?
MattParticipantI understand that most of your fishing is done on seamounts way past the shelf. But if you were fishing on the shelf what kind of structure are you looking for the three species? As the shelf slope is exactly that just a slope out to the abyss till it hits canyons and sea mounts as my understanding.
MattParticipantThanks Jo that makes a lot of sense.
Do you find you get the blue eye, bass grouper and
hapuka at the same time or in different location?Do you always mark fish before dropping or do you
sometimes not mark fish and just drop on a structure
that you think looks good?Ken
MattParticipantThanks Jo.
Do you ever freeze down the blue eye or do the buyers?
What is the best way to store/freeze these fish if not
being used within 10 days?MattParticipantThanks for reply Jo.
Do you run your gain at highest level bascically cluttering up screen alot in order to find this layer or will it show up during your normal sounding for fish?
During the day will it only be in the bottom 150fathoms? When you say it’s seen as a ribbon above the bottom you follow that ribbon along it till it’s closer to the bottom is that right?
With bottom lock because it flattens out the bottom, do you find that you miss structure or do you you just use the bottom lock when searching for this layer and fish?
Thanks
Ken
MattParticipantVery Good information. Thanks.
